Capital One's public page says to open a new account with promo code CHECKING250 and receive at least 2 direct deposits of $500 or more each within 75 days. The linked referral page instead shows $300 with the same deposit amounts and 75-day window. Bonus processing starts after the first 75 days and may take up to 60 more days. The account must remain open and in good standing. Capital One says the account has no fees or minimums and no overdraft fees.

Who it fits

You can receive two qualifying direct deposits of $500 or more each within 75 days. These must be regular periodic income payments, not transfers you make between your accounts.
You want a checking account without monthly fees.

Who should skip it

You cannot set up qualifying direct deposits in time.
